CWG: Case registered by ED against FEMA Violation

A case has been registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) pertaining to violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) as part of its probe into the alleged corruption in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also been reported to have received 20 complaints regarding the games which also include overlays works and those pertaining to CPWD works.

The Comptroller and Auditor General, Central Vigilance Commission, Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate, and the CBI are probing OC officials in addition to the special Committee organized by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Discrepancies have been found in tenders and the alleged misappropriation amounts to about Rs. 8,000 crore.
